The House's Word
What we keep, and what we never will
A privacy notice is usually written to be survived rather than read. This one is written to be read. If any line of it is unclear, write to the house and it will be said again more plainly.
What the house keeps of you
When you build in the Forge, the numbers stay in your own browser until you seal a Charter. Only a sealed Charter is written down — the build you chose, its price, the name and email you gave, and the reference by which we call it.
When you ask for the house letters, we keep the email address you gave and nothing else. When you carry a petition to the Alliance, we keep what the petition asks for.
The free instruments — the Vellum Bench, the Workshop benches, the three games — keep their work in your browser. Best scores, drafts and settings live on your machine. Nothing is sent to us.
Your manuscript
A manuscript pasted into a bench in your browser stays in your browser. A manuscript sent to the house for a commissioned build is held for the work and for delivery, and is never sold, licensed, published, offered as a sample, or used to train any model. The words remain the property of their author.
Money
Payments are taken by Stripe. The house never sees or stores your card. We keep the amount, the date, and the reference so the Charter's ledger balances.
Measurement, and the Keeping of Embers
The house measures whether an advertisement brought you here. That measurement uses tags from Google and, where a campaign runs there, from Meta, TikTok or Pinterest.
Nothing of that kind runs before you grant your leave in the Keeping of Embers — the window that meets you at the foot of the page. Refuse and the tags stay dark; grant it and you may withdraw your word at any hour from the door in the footer. Refusing costs you nothing — every instrument, every game and every page works the same either way.
What those tags report is arrival and two moments: a build begun in the Forge, and a Charter sealed. Never your manuscript, never your name.
Who else sees it
Only the trades that make the work possible: the hosting and database that run this site, Stripe for payment, the sender that carries the house letters, and the advertising platforms named above for measurement alone. The house sells nothing to anyone, and never has.
How long, and how to end it
Charter records are kept while the work is live and afterwards as the house's accounts require. Letters are kept until you ask to be let go — every letter carries that door.
Write to the house at any time and ask what is held of you, ask for it corrected, or ask for it struck out. The address below is answered by a person.
