Where it fails

Multi-character fiction. Synthetic voices drift: a character sounds slightly different in chapter nineteen than in chapter two, and listeners feel it without being able to name it.

Emotional turns. A model will read a death scene at the same temperature as a shopping list unless heavily directed, and the direction costs more than casting a person did.

Silence. Human narrators know when to leave a gap. That timing is most of what makes an audiobook feel alive.

Disclosure and retail

Major storefronts have moved toward asking whether narration is human or synthetic, and some surface that fact on the listing. Rules differ by retailer and change frequently — check the terms of each one before you upload.

Say it plainly if you use it. Listeners forgive a synthetic narrator far more readily than a concealed one.
