How long is an audiobook by word count?
Reckon about one minute of finished runtime for every thousand words. A 90,000-word novel runs roughly ninety minutes as a finished production. Raw narration-speed arithmetic will tell you otherwise — and it is wrong about the finished thing.

Why 150-words-a-minute math misleads
The familiar rule divides word count by a narration speed and hands you a raw read-aloud time. It ignores what production does: cuts, compression, scoring, held silence, chapter seams and the pace a scene actually earns.

Why runtime matters before you commission
Runtime decides booth days, editing hours, file counts and the retail metadata you will file. Knowing it in advance is the difference between planning a launch and reacting to one.
