What the tools actually do well

They accelerate the parts of the work that were always administration: research summaries, blurb drafts, keyword lists, outline scaffolds, transcription, catalogue copy. Hours, not craft.

They are competent imitators. Anything that could be produced by pattern — generic prose, interchangeable plotting, filler content — is now cheap, and that market has collapsed in price.

What they cannot do

They cannot have lived anything. Every specific, strange, true detail in your book came from being a person in the world, and that is the part readers form attachments to.

They cannot carry a readership. Readers follow authors, not outputs. A name that means something is an asset a model cannot generate.

They cannot take responsibility. Someone must stand behind the book — its claims, its rights, its promises. That is authorship, and it is not delegable.

Where the real pressure is

Volume. Storefronts are absorbing far more titles than before, which means discovery — not writing — is the scarce resource. The author who is findable and recognisable wins over the author who is merely good.

This is why this house builds film books and audio books rather than more text: a work that can be seen and heard travels where a paperback listing cannot.

Where this house stands

The Founder is an author and uses AI. We use it too — for drafting assistance in some of the free instruments, and it is labelled where it is used. What we do not do is generate a book and call it yours, or synthesise a voice without its owner's consent.

The line we hold is simple: machines may help with the labour, never with the authorship.

Should I be afraid of AI as an author?

Be aware, not afraid. The risk is being invisible in a louder market, not being out-written. Invest in voice, recognisability and formats readers can find.

Does using AI make me less of a writer?

No more than using a spellchecker, an editor or a research assistant. What matters is whether the book is yours in conception, judgement and responsibility.

Are publishers rejecting AI-assisted books?

Most publishers and storefronts now ask you to disclose how AI was used rather than banning assistance outright. Policies differ by company and change often — read the one you are submitting to.
