How do I make book videos for Reels and TikTok?
Cut them from work you already own. A single film book yields dozens of vertical pieces: a voice over a moving frame, burned-in captions, a two-second hook, and a title card at the tail. Frame 9:16, keep every piece under 30 seconds, and assume the sound is off until the caption earns it.

Which passages travel
Passages that carry a whole feeling in under fifty words. A threat, a confession, a rule of your world stated flatly, a line of dialogue that would make a stranger turn their head.
Avoid exposition, avoid anything that needs a name explained, and avoid your prologue's opening paragraph — it is almost always scene-setting, which is the least portable thing you wrote.
A working test: read the passage aloud to someone who has not read the book. If you have to explain anything first, it is not a vertical piece.
The craft rules
9:16, and keep every important thing away from the bottom fifth where the platform stacks its own furniture. Burn captions in — a caption the platform generates can be turned off, and yours cannot.
Hook in the first two seconds: motion, a face, or a sentence that opens a hole. Title and cover at the tail, never at the head.
One idea per piece. The temptation is to compress the whole book into thirty seconds; the discipline is to spend thirty seconds on one moment and let the book stay unspent.
How far one build goes
A finished film book is raw material for a season of posting. Chapter openings, voice moments, score-only atmosphere pieces, cover-reveal cuts, quote plates — a 90,000-word build routinely yields thirty to fifty distinct verticals without a frame of new footage.
That is the whole argument for producing once and cutting many times. Marketing here is sold as effort and reach, never as sales or rankings, and the reach comes from having something worth cutting.
Asked and answered
- Do I need to appear on camera?
- No. Voice, text and moving image carry a book fine. Author-on-camera is one option among many, not a requirement.
- Can I use my audiobook narration in a vertical?
- Yes, if the recording is yours. Keep it short, caption it, and master it loud enough to survive a phone speaker.
- How often should I post?
- Consistently rather than heavily. A steady weekly rhythm outperforms a burst that stops.
